The City of Bunbury offers two convenient library locations: the Bunbury Public Library, the main library in the heart of Bunbury’s CBD, and the Withers Community Library, offering a peaceful community hub located in the southern Bunbury suburb of Withers.

The Withers Community Library offers an extension of many of the library's services, including:

  • Public computers for public use
  • Free Wi-Fi throughout the building
  • Photocopying and printing
  • Range of fiction and non-fiction books for adults and children
  • DVDs and Audiobooks
  • Magazines and Newspapers
  • Request items from the 27 connected libraries in the South West

WITHERS COMMUNITY LIBRARY FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • Withers Community Library is open Monday to Friday, 9am to 1pm. The facility is closed on weekends and public holidays.

    As per a recent Council decision, a review is currently underway, including the operational and resourcing needs and impacts related to potentially extending these hours. Any decisions relating to extending opening hours, servicing or resourcing would need to be considered as part of the City’s future budget process.

  • Foodbank WA previously withdrew their proposal, and as such the operations and opening hours of Withers Community Library remain unchanged. As per Council decisions 10 December 2025 and 18 March 2025, there will be no immediate operational changes to the Withers Community Library. However, the CEO has committed to completing a review to provide an overview of potential options relating to resourcing, programming and operational needs. A report is due back to Council at its 20 May Ordinary Council Meeting.

  • Community-led programs are continuing to run at our Withers Community Library.

    The reintroduction of City-run library programs requires careful consideration and review in determining the budgetary, resourcing, safety and community needs. These decisions take time to prepare and implement. This is to enable us to make informed decisions through the review and community consultation process. We will update the community when we can.

  • The City provides an exciting line up of events, activities and programs from the Bunbury Public Library for all ages. For kids, we offer a range of regular programs encouraging early literacy and lifelong learning. Young Adults can join in one of our clubs and find connection with other like-minded young adults. We also offer Adult Learning opportunities from one-on-one tech help to workshops covering any topic.

  • A community-led program or event is planned, promoted, hosted and facilitated by the local community. The Bunbury Public and Withers Community libraries have meeting rooms available for use during library operating hours for community-led programs or events, but a room hire booking – subject to availability, terms and conditions – must be made.

  • For approved and pre-booked community-led events, the City provides free or affordable use of community meeting rooms and meeting room equipment, tea and coffee facilities (upon request), use of community notice boards, and public liability insurance for casual users.

    Please note, the City does not manage participant queries or bookings, provide assistance (including set up and pack down) or facilitation of events or activities, and cannot offer marketing or promotional support.

  • Any events or activities at Bunbury and Withers libraries require an approved room hire booking, which is subject to availability, terms and conditions. The City’s priority is the safety of our community, and we are bound by duty of care procedures, including appropriate insurance and licencing, so we ask our community to adhere to the correct processes for the benefit and safety of everyone.

  • To ensure availability, please call 9792 7190 before completing a room hire application form, which is available online here, or in person at the library. All relevant information, such as terms and conditions, images, facilities and equipment, fees and charges and room hire applications are also available via the above link.

  • Any future technology needs will be considered as part of the operational review currently underway. At this stage, there is no allocated budget for RFID to be installed at the Withers Community Library.

  • There will be no immediate changes to the Withers Community Library staffing. Any decisions relating to extending opening hours, servicing or resourcing would need to be considered as part of the City’s future budget process.
