The Noongar Arts Program Artist in Residence program at Wilger Mia (Bunbury Regional Art Gallery) provides artists with a dedicated studio space and time for creative exploration. The program allows artists to connect with new audiences and networks, enriching their creative practice, as well as providing the opportunity to engage with gallery visitors and other artists.
The program is open to all First Nations artists of all disciplines and at different stages of their career - emerging, mid-career and established. Artists will receive use of an arts studio within BRAG and a space for exhibiting their work. The residency does not cover accommodation or travel costs.
During the residency, artists are encouraged to participate actively in the Noongar Arts Program through skill sharing, working on projects with the artists and demonstrating their work in the studio. Artists are also invited to keep their doors open and interact with gallery visitors, sharing stories of their practice and artwork.
The residency may also include mentoring, promotion, and support with the development of a public engagement event such as an artist talk, panel discussion or workshop. The residency will take place for a negotiated period between one to three months.
