The City of Bunbury is planning upgrades to roads, parking, pedestrian and cycle connections, and traffic circulation throughout the Hay Park Precinct. The proposed improvements will enhance safety, accessibility and connectivity for precinct users while supporting existing sporting facilities and preparing for future growth. Community members are invited to view the plans, learn more about the project and speak with project staff at upcoming information sessions.
The City of Bunbury is planning upgrades to roads, car parking, pedestrian and cycle connections, and traffic circulation throughout the Hay Park Precinct.
These improvements will support existing sporting and recreation facilities while helping prepare the precinct for future growth, including the future Bunbury Community Courts being delivered by Bunbury Basketball Association, with City support.
The project aims to improve safety, accessibility and connectivity for the thousands of people who use Hay Park each week for sport, recreation and community activities.
Project overview
Hay Park is one of the South West's premier sporting and recreation precincts, accommodating a wide range of sporting clubs, community groups, events and visitors.
As use of the precinct continues to grow, upgrades are required to improve vehicle movement, pedestrian safety and access throughout the area.
The proposed works have been informed by operational and stakeholder input gathered during the planning phase and are now being shared with precinct users to seek feedback and identify any refinements ahead of construction.
What's proposed?
The project includes upgrades and improvements to:
- New entry road from the Hudson/Parade Road roundabout, improving access and connectivity to the central sporting precinct.
- New and upgraded internal low-speed road network, including a new roundabout and traffic-calming measures targeting a 30 km/h operating speed.
- New and upgraded pedestrian and cycle connections throughout the precinct.
- Additional car parking, supported by lighting, landscaping, irrigation and wayfinding improvements.
These upgrades are intended to improve access to existing facilities while also supporting future development within the precinct.
This project relates specifically to road, parking and pedestrian infrastructure. It does not involve decisions regarding the location or delivery of the Bunbury Community Courts project.
Please note, while the City intends to undertake improvements to existing South West Sports Centre carparks, delivery of these works is subject to final project costs and available funding following the procurement and tender process. If some upgrades cannot be delivered as part of the current project, they have been designed and will remain a priority for consideration in future funding and capital works programs.

The Hay Park Precinct continues to grow as a regional destination for sport, recreation and community activities. The proposed upgrades will:
- Improve safety for motorists, pedestrians and cyclists
- Enhance accessibility across the precinct
- Improve traffic flow during busy periods and events
- Provide better connections between facilities
- Support current and future users of Hay Park
- Prepare the precinct for future growth and investment
Information Sessions
The City is inviting sporting clubs, precinct users and community members to view the concept plans and learn more about the project. Project staff will be available to answer questions and discuss the proposed upgrades.

Representatives from Aqwest – Bunbury Water and Bunbury Basketball Association will also be available to provide updates on other significant projects occurring within the Hay Park Precinct.

The concept design is nearing completion and has been informed by operational requirements and previous stakeholder input. Information sessions are being held to keep precinct users informed before construction begins.
Yes! The City welcomes questions and comments about the project. While this engagement is being conducted at the Inform level and is intended to provide information on the proposed upgrades rather than undertake further design consultation, we are always open to hearing from the community and will consider any matters that may have been missed.
The City will work to minimise disruptions to community facilities and surrounding areas as much as possible during construction. Construction staging and access arrangements will be communicated once project timing has been confirmed, and advance notice will be provided of any temporary changes to access, parking or facility operations. Residents and facility users will be kept informed throughout the project.
