Repair works to upgrade the Leschenault Inlet rock walls – located at the entrance to the inlet – and Koombana Bay groyne will start in May 2025, and will include additional rocks to help rebuild the groynes and walls.
Due to the age and condition of the existing walls, erosion and loss of material have started to occur. These repairs are necessary to protect public reserves and nearby properties.
The important project will be carried out in stages during autumn and winter, helping minimise disruptions for our community. The upgrades are expected to be completed in November 2025.
During the works, trucks will deliver additional rock for the groynes and walls to be rebuilt, ensuring they can continue the important function of stabilising the beaches, preventing siltation of the channel and erosion of the channel banks and ensuring the storm surge barrier can continue to function effectively.
There will be some truck movement and traffic management in place. The works will also mean some pathway and beach closures for the duration of the upgrades. The City will do its best to minimise disruptions and maintain access to nearby businesses at Koombana Bay and Koombana North at all times.
We acknowledge these works may cause some disruptions to residents and businesses during this time, and we thank our community for their understanding and patience as we endeavour to complete these important works as quickly as possible.
This project is jointly funded by the Commonwealth Government, Transforming Bunbury's Waterfront, and the City of Bunbury, and acknowledges the support of the Department of Fire and Emergency Services.
