The City of Bunbury is commencing rehabilitation works at Boulters Heights, starting with the removal of a long-closed boardwalk to improve safety and pave the way for future enhancements.
Project timeline

The City of Bunbury is beginning important works at Boulters Heights to improve safety and prepare for an exciting future.
Starting Monday 13 October, the 70m wooden boardwalk, which has been closed for some time due to safety concerns, will be removed. This is the first step in a broader plan to rehabilitate and enhance this iconic space.
We’re also excited to announce the involvement of Professor Kingsley Dixon, renowned for his work at Kings Park, who will help guide the ecological rehabilitation of the site.
Some of the salvaged timber will be repurposed for community use, with local charity groups such as Men’s Sheds expressing interest.
We understand the community’s eagerness to see progress at Boulters Heights. This site presents unique environmental and structural challenges, and the City has been working steadily – often behind the scenes – to ensure any changes are safe, sustainable and respectful of its significance.
While it may seem like little has happened, a great deal of groundwork has been laid. From securing expert support to navigating complex site conditions, this project has required careful planning and significant investment.
This groundwork is already bearing fruit. The recently completed Prinsep Street staircase upgrade and addition of a stunning new lighting installation, is a great example of how creative thinking and collaboration are transforming Bunbury’s public spaces. With 246 individually controlled RGBW lights running up both sides of the staircase, the installation has quickly become a standout feature in Bunbury’s nightscape. It’s part of the City’s broader decorative lighting program and showcases our commitment to enhancing key locations while celebrating local innovation.
We’re now leveraging this momentum to enhance other areas including a lookout clearing at the top of these stairs for the benefit of the community, creating safer, more vibrant spaces that reflect Bunbury’s character and potential.
