Library of Forgotten Lives is an inclusive participatory installation artwork that invites members of the public to document their own life. Using digital tools embedded in what looks like an old-school library, LOFL invites participants to author lives that may otherwise go undocumented. Reminding us that everyone has a story to tell inside them.

Upon arrival, each participant is attributed a book box and log in via a touch screen that generates and prints out a QR code. All digital content they produce within the library (sound, image, text and video files) are connected to this QR identity. Visitors to the library can then create and add as much content, objects and mementos as they like to construct their story. Visitors can also scan other people’s QR code identities to uncover the various stories within the book box volumes lining the walls.
Library of Forgotten Lives gives everybody the opportunity to author their life. To revisit, to share or not to share, to fictionalize, to imagine, to change.
The project will have a Librarian/attendant present as both guide and teacher, navigating people through how to form their story and interact and use the technology.
Library of Forgotten Lives will be at the Bunbury Regional Art Gallery for September, October and November 2024. Visit the library between opening hours, Wednesday to Sunday, 10am to 4pm.
This project is presented by DADAA through support from the Department of Communities and Act, Belong, Commit. In partnership with Bunbury Regional Art Gallery.
