Reading Buddies

Published 25 March 2024, updated 20 April 2024

Your child is invited to the Bunbury Public Library to spend time reading to a trained therapy dog.

Do you have a school-aged child who has difficulties or experiences embarrassment when reading out loud?

Therapy dogs provide a non-judgmental environment where children can relax and focus while reading. This can in turn help your child to increase their literacy skills, confidence, and joy of reading.

These sessions run fortnightly during the school term. Each session lasts around 20 minutes and parents and their child can enjoy a one-on-one reading session in a quiet cosy area of the Bunbury Public Library. Participants will have exclusive time with the therapy dog and its owner, with no interruptions from the public.

Kids can bring their own books, or they can choose something from the library's collection.
