Christmas Lights Competition 2025

Be part of the festive cheer this Christmas!

As part of Christmas in the City and the Summer Lovin' program of events, the City of Bunbury will host the annual Christmas Lights Competition presented by Ben Colman Elders Real Estate.

Winners will be announced on 14 December during the carols concert at Christmas in the City.

  • The City of Bunbury Christmas Lights Competition is a festive opportunity to bring the community together and spread Christmas joy. Residents of the City of Bunbury are encouraged to participate and showcase their creative and festive light displays with the opportunity to win a cash prize!

    If you become mesmerised by dazzling displays and love spreading Christmas cheer, then this competition is for you!

  • The competition opens at 9am on 24 October 2025, and entries must be received by the closing date of at 5pm 7 December 2025.

    Application forms will be available on the City of Bunbury website, at the bottom of this page. Assistance is available for those needing help with the online form. Please contact the events team for further support.

    Only one entry per household is allowed.

    Entry to the competition is free. Entrants into the Christmas Lights Competition will be deemed as having read the full terms and conditions before entry.

    • This competition is open to all residents being owners and/or occupants of a property within the City of Bunbury’s boundaries, eligible post codes include: 6230, 6231, 6232, 6233.
    • To enter, the property must be decorated with festive lights and decorations that are clearly visible from the street front.
    • Entrants must not use the footpath, electricity poles, or any other property outside their boundary, for any purpose of their display.
    • Entrants are required to have their light displays illuminated for viewing by the judging panel and photographer, between 7:30pm and 10:30pm from Monday, 8 December to Wednesday, 10 December 2025, inclusive. Properties where the lights are not illuminated during this time, and the photographer is not able to obtain suitable images, will be disqualified from the voting pool.
    • Entrants are responsible for all costs associated with their display.
    • Participants agree to have their property address, name and photographs of their decorated display publicly communicated on the City of Bunbury’s and the sponsor’s website and other promotional platforms.

  • Applications open: 24 October 2025 at 9am

    Application close: date 7 December 2025 by 5pm

    Judging period: 8 to 10 December, 7:30 to 10:30pm

    Winner announced: 14 December 2025

  • The judging panel comprises of: City of Bunbury Mayor, City of Bunbury CEO, Ben Colman, and City of Bunbury Peter Wright.

    The Events and Place Activation Team will visit all nominated properties and select 10 finalists based on the following judging criteria:

    • First impression – creativity, design, layout, theme
    • Decorations – use of colour, form of creation, variety of repetition, sound
    • Community Engagement – Interactive elements, multiple photo opportunities, rea life characters etc.
    • Sustainable features

    The judging panel will then view the 10 finalist properties from 8 and 10 December 2025 between 7:30pm and 10:30pm.

    The judges’ decision is final, and no correspondence will be entered into.

  • A total of $1000 cash will be awarded to the Best Overall Display

    The top 3 houses will be contacted by a member of the Events and Place Activation Team between 10 and 12 December and provided with further information.

    The winner will be announced during the stage program at the Christmas in the City, Carols Concert, on 14 December 2025.

    • The misuse of electricity can cause injury or death. Entrants must not use any indoor lighting or products outdoors and must comply with the safety instructions on all electrical products used.
    • Inspections by qualified electricians to check safety of the entrant’s display are highly recommended and will be the responsibility and at the expense of each entrant.
    • Entrants need to consider the impact of their display and act accordingly to minimise any risk that can cause harm to traffic or pedestrians.
    • Entrants are not to use the footpath, electricity poles or any property outside of their property boundary for any purpose of their display.
    • The Christmas Lights Competition is designed to encourage community participation and the spirit of giving and sharing. Entrants agree to enter the competition in the spirit in which it was intended and act accordingly.
