City receives project grant for ecological assessments

City of Bunbury is a successful recipient of a Local Biodiversity and Native Vegetation Management Project Grant from Western Australian Local Government Authority (WALGA).

Thanks to this grant we can undertake ecological assessments across selected reserves as well as Five Mile Brook, to identify ecological, social and cultural values of the areas.

The project focuses on involvement from community land care groups and helps support the Leschenault Catchment Council (LCC) Danju-Jobs Together Program.

The collected information will be used to prioritise the reserves so that resources and funding can be allocated appropriately to manage threats to biodiversity.

The outcomes of the assessment will help develop strategic management actions and long-term re-vegetation priorities. Importantly, the project will establish reciprocal working relationships with volunteer groups and raise awareness about local biodiversity values.

The project will ultimately result in positive outcomes for the environment and community now and into the future.

This project is delivered by the City with support from the Western Australian Government’s State NRM Program and WALGA.
