Want to find out more about the proposed Ocean Pool project?

The City of Bunbury is hosting two information sessions this month and we are inviting the community to attend.

These sessions form part of the community and stakeholder engagement regarding the proposed ocean pool construction at Wyalup Rocky Point. This follows on from the Council endorsement of a business case and concept plan for the project.

A series of studies into the viability of the project have been undertaken including site investigation, noise and visual impacts, geotechnical investigation and an Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Report.

A refined concept plan proposes a community, free-to-use, saltwater ocean pool nestled among the existing basalt rocks and channel, featuring a 50m lap pool, 25m rehabilitation pool, entry ramp with wheelchair access, children’s pool and wading zone. The plan also includes amenities and landscaping of the precinct.

Council has also endorsed the City identifying and seeking funding opportunities including from State and Federal governments, and private investment with the project estimated at $17.82 million plus additional ongoing yearly operational and maintenance costs.

While the Council endorsed the impressive concept plans, it is now crucial that the City gauges from its community if it wants an ocean pool and its thoughts on the proposed project. This is an important next step for the City, with community and stakeholder input crucial and valuable to the ocean pool project.

The plan will also include further Aboriginal community consultation regarding the heritage and cultural significance of the proposed location.
