Council has formally endorsed the Council Plan 2026–2036, setting a clear strategic direction for Bunbury over the next decade.
The vision was clear: to become Western Australia's most connected coastal city.
A place where people, ideas and opportunity connect, where our coastal identity is celebrated and protected, and where our city heart reflects the ambition of a true regional capital.
The plan is the product of extensive community engagement, spanning two phases across 2025 and 2026 and capturing more than 1,700 touchpoints through surveys, pop up sessions, workshops and online engagement. It reflects what the community told the City matters most for Bunbury's future.
The plan is built around five focus areas, each shaped directly by community feedback:
- Our Homes – increasing housing supply, diversity and affordability.
- Our City Centre – revitalising Bunbury's city heart through business attraction, streetscape improvements and events.
- Our Environment – protecting and enhancing our beaches, waterways, bushland and green spaces.
- Our Economy – strengthening local employment, industry diversity and tourism.
- Our Organisation – investing in the upkeep of roads, parks, footpaths and other public assets.
The Council Plan is intentionally focused, rather than attempting to capture everything the City does. It works alongside the City's other key strategies, including the Sustainability and Environmental Strategy, Community Safety and Crime Prevention Plan, Bunbury Arts and Culture Strategy, City of Bunbury Tourism Plan and Disability Access and Inclusion Plan, all of which continue to guide their respective areas in parallel with the Council Plan.
Progress against the plan will be monitored every six months, with public reporting each year to ensure transparency and accountability.
Mayor Jaysen Miguel said the plan reflected what the community had asked of Council, and that Council would now focus on delivering the vision together with the community.
The Council Plan 2026–2036 replaces the City's Strategic Community Plan 2022–2032 and will now guide Council decision making, investment and service delivery as Bunbury works towards its vision of becoming WA's most connected coastal city.
