Help shape Bunbury's next 10 years

This is an exciting milestone in the development of our Council Plan and we want you to be part of it.

You told us what you love about Bunbury, now we're checking we got it right.

After months of listening to our community, we've drafted a vision for Bunbury's future. It's an aspirational statement of where we're heading and what we're collectively working towards over the next decade. We'd love to know how it resonates with you.

WESTERN AUSTRALIA'S MOST CONNECTED COASTAL CITY.

People and ideas connect in Bunbury, home to natural coastal beauty and a vibrant city heart. Our culturally rich regional capital is supported by a diverse economy, inclusive urban planning and strong community connections.

What is a vision?

The vision sits at the heart of our Council Plan 2026–2036, capturing the big-picture direction for Bunbury over the next 10 years. It guides decisions about services, infrastructure and investment - shaping everything from how we plan our neighbourhoods to how we support our community to thrive.

It's forward-looking by design. It reflects the city we want to grow into, rather than simply describing where we are today.

How did we get here?

This draft has been shaped by what you told us during community engagement in 2025, including your love for Bunbury's natural environment and coastal lifestyle, and the importance of focusing on housing, city centre activation, infrastructure and connectivity.

Your voices are reflected in this draft. Now we want to make sure we've got it right.

What are the focus areas?

Our Homes - A connected city needs homes for everyone

We’re working to ensure Bunbury offers a diverse mix of housing options to meet the needs of a growing and changing community. This includes unlocking City-owned land for residential development and supporting well-planned growth through implementation of the Local Planning Strategy. By increasing housing choice and affordability, we aim to create inclusive neighbourhoods where people can live, connect and thrive.

Our City Centre – Where our region comes together

Our City Centre is the cultural and economic heart of the South West. Through thoughtful planning and design, we are shaping a centre that reflects Bunbury’s role as a regional capital. We are also driving development and activation through coordinated urban growth, place-based initiatives and cultural programming - creating a vibrant, welcoming destination for residents, businesses and visitors alike.

Our Environment – Protecting what makes Bunbury, Bunbury

We are committed to protecting and enhancing Bunbury’s unique natural environment for current and future generations. This includes managing coastal assets to reduce the impacts of erosion and inundation, expanding and maintaining the urban tree canopy to support liveability and climate resilience, and addressing contaminated sites through planned assessment and remediation.

Our Economy – Connecting people to opportunity

A strong local economy supports a thriving community. We are focused on making Bunbury a business-friendly city by simplifying processes and improving the experience of working with the City. At the same time, we are strengthening Bunbury’s position as a regional hub for investment and employment, encouraging economic growth and creating opportunities for local people and businesses.

Our Organisation – Earning trust through delivery

We are committed to delivering for our community through strong leadership, financial management and effective operations. This includes sustainable asset management, improved project delivery, and ongoing digital transformation. We also prioritise clear communication, meaningful community engagement, and strong advocacy to build trust, transparency and confidence in how we serve the Bunbury community.

Have your say

We're inviting our community to review the draft vision and focus areas and share feedback before the Council Plan is finalised. Your feedback will help shape the decisions that guide Bunbury over the next 10 years - every voice matters.
