We’ve been shaping the future of one of our most iconic spaces – Bicentennial Square and its surrounding precinct.
Sitting between the City Centre and the beautiful Leschenault Inlet, this site holds incredible potential to become a thriving, vibrant heart for our community.
And we have big news 🎉
After two stages of community engagement, and with your feedback at the heart of it, the masterplan has been officially endorsed by Council. This sets the overall vision and direction for the precinct – a more connected, inclusive and flexible public space, made up of six vibrant precincts guided by nine strategic moves.
The message from our community was clear … Be brave, be bold, and do it well. You told us to invest properly, commit to the full vision, and create something other cities haven’t.
Your feedback has been rich, passionate, and pivotal in shaping a masterplan that reflects our community’s aspirations for this space.
A note on the Graham Bricknell Memorial Music Shell 🎶
We know this much-loved space holds special meaning for many in our community. Council has endorsed a further recommendation to ensure additional consultation takes place before any changes to the Music Shell progress. We’ll be sure to keep you informed and give you the chance to have your say.
What’s next?
With the masterplan endorsed, the detail of the things you care about most will be worked through during detailed design – we’ll keep our community informed at every stage, with opportunities to have a say at key milestones along the way.
This is a long-term vision that will be delivered in stages. Now the plan is endorsed, we’ll be seeking the funding and investment to make it happen.
First and foremost, our stage one priority is to bring life back into the much-loved Old Railway Station building – with opportunities for the community to be involved as this work takes shape.
We’ll be sharing opportunities to stay involved as detailed design begins – keep an eye on the project page and our socials!
Together, we’re shaping the vibrant heart of Bunbury 💛
