Emergency Management

Western Australia hosts some of the most stunning scenery in the world but our extreme weather conditions also mean that we can be at risk of harm from emergency situations including fire, storm, flood and heatwaves. City Of Bunbury’s Local Emergency Management Committee (LEMC) is established under the provisions of the Emergency Management Act 2005 (The Act) to identify and minimise the risk of harm from these emergencies.

Local governments are required under the provisions of Section 36 of the The Act to ensure Local Emergency Management Arrangements (LEMA) are prepared for their local government area. The documents provide the information required to act promptly and effectively should one of these emergency situations arise.

The LEMC membership includes the City of Bunbury, WA Police, Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES), St John Ambulance, Bush Fire Brigades, Department of Communities, Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions, Main Roads WA, Water Corp, Department of Health and more.

Meetings are hosted quarterly with a plan to review Emergency Management Arrangements and Incident Management. The Committee also hosts annual risk exercises and looks at ways to maximise community safety and effective critical incident management.

The City also participates in important workshops and training that focus on risk management, evacuation and recovery to ensure the City of Bunbury community is well prepared for any critical incident that may occur.
