About

Ambition draws from the City of Bunbury Art Collection to showcase the work of women artists whose practices are sustained by a commitment to their ideas, their craft, and to the ongoing act of making.

In this exhibition, ambition is expressed through bold gestures, scale, refinement and attention to detail, as well as through the ongoing discipline of process and practice.

We see woven fibres repeat with precision. Ceramic forms honed to reflect the contours of the land. Paint layered with the indulgence of icing, and skies rendered with graceful precision.

These are works shaped by the artist’s patience, intention, and deep understanding of their materials and mediums.

For many of these artists, ambition also lives beyond the gallery, in acts of persistence and care, in balancing artistic practice with the responsibilities of life, family, and community. There is continued navigation in a field that hasn’t always welcomed these dual roles.

Together, the works reveal layered ambition. To keep creating, to refine materials, to persist over years. Each piece maps a shared terrain of skill, tenacity, and imagination, offering insight into the complex, layered ways women artists sustain and continue ambitious creative practice.
