Youth Precinct remains a priority for the City

Bunbury's Youth Precinct has reached another milestone with Bunbury City Council last night signing off on the preferred consultant for the detailed design work.

The successful applicant, Playce, is the same company that led the community engagement and development of the concept design for the Youth Precinct.

Despite the recent pandemic limiting funding opportunities for projects of this scale, the City of Bunbury has remained committed to delivering this community-driven project.

A total of $500,000 had been allocated in the City's current 2019/20 budget for the detailed design while the Council has committed a further $3.5m in its long-term financial plan and it will look at a variety of additional funding options in its 2020/21 budget for the project.

The Council last night voted to endorse Playce, and City officers will now enter into contract negotiations for this crucial stage of the project.

Mayor Gary Brennan said the Youth Precinct remained one of the City’s top priorities.

“As we transition into recovery efforts following the recent COVID-19 pandemic, the Youth Precinct is going to provide essential community and economic support for the City of Bunbury,” Mayor Brennan said.

“We are keen to continue moving forward with the project and the prospect of construction starting mid next year is exciting.”

Playce is an award-winning company that specialises in creating fun and inclusive spaces for people of all ages, boasting a long list of unique skateparks, play spaces and youth precincts that they have designed and delivered across Australia.
