South Western Times Art 2020 to showcase region’s artistic talent
South Western Times Art 2020 – Bunbury Regional Art Gallery’s biennial South West Survey exhibition – will kick off on February 14, featuring 68 of the region’s artists.
The exhibition’s opening night will see live music and food vans take over the City’s renowned art Gallery, while guests will be able to enjoy beers from Otherside Brewing Co and Geographe wines.
This year’s exhibition has been curated by Lee Kinsella, writer and curator of the Cruthers Collection of Women’s Art at the Lawrence Wilson Art Gallery of UWA.
"The South Western Times Art 2020 exhibition is an opportunity to gain artists’ honest and direct assessment of pressing issues affecting this region – economic, social and environmental," Ms Kinsella said.
"The works of art in this exhibition allow us to reflect upon what it is that sustains us."
Filling BRAG’s two largest gallery spaces, South Western Times Art 2020 showcases a diverse range of works, embracing innovative and challenging ideas as well as traditional practice from both emerging and established artists.
City of Bunbury Mayor Gary Brennan said the exhibition was a highlight of the Gallery’s calendar of events, showcasing some of the South West’s most talented artists.
"I encourage everyone to get along to the City’s iconic Bunbury Regional Art Gallery for yet another impressive exhibition," Mayor Brennan said.
"The biennial exhibition is a chance to show off some of Bunbury Geographe’s artistic and vast talent."
Professor Ted Snell will be head judge for the prestigious exhibition, awarding the City of Bunbury $10,000 prize, which includes a fully supported solo exhibition at BRAG.
Members of the Geographe Wine Association will judge the Winemakers of Geographe Bay prize, generously sponsored by Labelmakers. South Western Times Art 2020 will open at 7pm on Friday February 14 with the exhibition on display until April 27, 2020.
