Bunbury’s biggest visual arts exhibition for local young artists will take over the Bunbury Regional Art Gallery (BRAG) throughout October and November.
The Iluka Visions exhibition opens on Saturday 12 October with the awards night being held on Friday 18 October.
This major event on the visual arts calendar is open to all high school students living in the South West and provides an insight into the hopes, concerns and dreams of these young artists.
The annual exhibition is made possible thanks to the generous support of Iluka Resources.
One talented Year 11 or 12 student will receive the coveted Iluka Prize which includes a week-long internship at the Perth Institute of Contemporary Art.
There will also be awards across all year groups for the best artworks.
A professional development day for teachers and educators will be held during the exhibition and includes a practical workshop and guest speakers.
BRAG Director Joanne Baitz said Iluka Visions was a wonderful opportunity for young artists to showcase their art to the wider community and kick start a future in the arts.
“Past winners have gone on to study and build their careers in their arts,” Dr Baitz said.
“It is also a fantastic insight into our young people and I encourage the community to come along and see the exhibition for themselves.”
The whole community is invited to celebrate the official opening and awards night from 6pm to 8pm on Friday 18 October.
On Friday October 25 will be the Collaboration: Inside and Outside the Art Room for teachers and educators from 10am to 4pm which is free for participating schools.
The exhibition runs until Sunday 24 November.
