Community Environmental Reference Group

The City of Bunbury’s Community Environmental Reference Group seeks to support the exchange of information between Council and the general community on environmental issues.

The reference group’s voting membership is entirely community-based, comprising of community members (“Local Environmental Ambassadors”) and representatives from key community-based environmental organisations in the local area.

The Local Environmental Ambassadors are accessible ‘friendly ears’ that serve to convey information from the general community to the reference group.

The representatives from key community-based environmental organisations play an important role in exchanging information between their organisations, Council and the other participants in the reference group.  This approach seeks to connect environmental networks in the local area and support improved information exchange and collaboration between them.

The reference group has input into Council’s environmental initiatives and forms recommendations to Council where appropriate.  The reference group also supports the development of an annual local environmental forum event in order to foster community education on key local environmental issues.
