Councillor Jaysen de San Miguel has been voted in as Bunbury’s Deputy Mayor following a ballot at last night’s Bunbury City Council meeting.
Cr Miguel was one of two nominees for the position, along with Cr James Hayward, and he takes over the role from Cr Brendan Kelly who has served as Deputy Mayor for the past four years.
Mayor Gary Brennan congratulated Cr Miguel on his appointment and said he was looking forward to working closely with him over the coming years.
“Cr Miguel has served the community passionately since he was first elected to council four years ago,” Mr Brennan said.
“It is a significant commitment to take on the role of Deputy Mayor and I look forward to Cr Miguel bringing his energetic approach and modern outlook to the role.
“It is also important that I acknowledge the contribution of Cr Kelly, who has been a dedicated Deputy Mayor over several years.”
Mr Brennan also praised Elected Members who committed themselves to roles on a variety of council committees, working groups and panels at last night’s meeting.
“It is great to see our Elected Members put their hands up to take on a wide variety of roles and I look forward to them serving Council and the community to the best of their abilities,” Mr Brennan said.
