Bunbury City Council on Tuesday evening agreed to the advertisement of the draft Bunbury Racecourse Local Area Plan (LAP), draft Racecourses Structure Plan and draft Local Planning Strategy Amendment No.2 with the community invited to have its say on the future of the precinct.
The precinct includes the Bunbury Turf Club, Bunbury Trotting Club, the Stables residential area and the former City depot.
This project in partnership with Landcorp and the South West Development Commission began in July 2016 with a series of community and stakeholder workshops as well as the establishment of two working groups.
Stables residents, the Bunbury Turf Club and the Bunbury Trotting Club have all been a part of the design process with feedback received from the community and stakeholder engagement forming the draft LAP.
If endorsed the plans would allow portions of the area to be rezoned giving landowners a choice about future land use and development.
Bunbury Mayor Gary Brennan said advertising the LAP for comment would enable the community to put forward their views on the draft plan.
“This is an important step in the process of adopting the plan which provides a 20-year vision for the future of the precinct and I encourage everyone who has an opinion to provide comment so we can ensure your voice is heard,” Mayor Brennan said.
“We want to make sure we get this right and listen to those who will be most affected by the plan.”
The draft plans will be publically advertised for 28 days, however, the City is currently waiting on permission from the Western Australian Planning Commission to allow the advertising of the three proposals concurrently. The draft plans during the advertising period will be available via the City’s website and the Administration Building at 4 Stephen Street, Bunbury.
