Beam scoots into Bunbury

Tuesday, 3 March 2020

The City of Bunbury has this week finalised a trading license agreement with e-scooter company Beam to bring the first e-scooter trial to Western Australia.

Beam’s third generation purple scooters will begin arriving in Bunbury later this week and will be introduced at prominent Bunbury locations including the Dolphin Discovery Centre and the CBD.

Temporary hang tags will also be attached to the scooters directing riders towards downloading the Beam app with further instructions reflected on stickers pasted on the scooters to guide riders.

Beam Marshals will be roaming around to the various locations to provide additional support to users.

Bunbury Mayor Gary Brennan said hosting the first e-scooter trial in Bunbury was an exciting opportunity for the City.

“Bunbury is leading the way by offering a unique and fun way to travel around our wonderful City and visit the many attractions we have to offer,” Mayor Brennan said.

“I look forward to seeing locals and visitors scooting around, and taking all of Bunbury in.”

A full report will be provided to the City after the first two weeks of the trial to determine if any operational adjustments are required.

Monthly data will also be provided to City staff on usage patterns of the e-scooters.

The duration of the trial period will be six months and will exclude footpaths and roads on Victoria Street between Wellington and Symmons Streets.

Founded in July 2018, Beam provides a range of innovative micro-mobility solutions to encourage greater use of public transit networks.

An official launch of the Beam e-scooter trial in Bunbury will be held later this month.
