International academic Emeritus Professor, Richard Read will deliver four summer lectures on Art and Changing World Pictures at the Bunbury Regional Art Gallery (BRAG).
Each lecture focuses on a significant artwork and period of Western art, exploring Classical, Byzantine, Medieval and early Renaissance art and its importance over the centuries.
Read is Emeritus Professor and Senior Honorary Research Fellow at the University of Western Australia, Perth.
He wrote the first book on the British art critic Adrian Stokes and has published extensively on the relationship between literature and the visual arts, nineteenth and twentieth-century art, film, art theory and complex images in global contexts.
He has lectured in many universities and galleries in Australia, North America and Europe
All events will be held at BRAG located at 64 Wittenoom Street, Bunbury.
The lectures will take place on the following dates:
Lecture 1: “Greek Sculpture and the Parthenon”
Lecture 2: “Byzantine Mosaics at Ravenna”
Lecture 3: “Good and Bad Government at Medieval Siena”
Lecture 4: Framing Renaissance Art, Piero della Francesca’s Flagellation
Cost is $20 plus booking fee per person.
Payment can be made via Eventbrite or by cash or card at the BRAG reception.
