Bunbury Regional Art Gallery will reopen its doors on Monday 29 June when some of the City’s most iconic art pieces will be on display.
Following months of closure due to COVID-19 restrictions, the City’s renowned art facility will be open to the community once again with a major showing of the City of Bunbury Art Collection.
The unique collection delves into Bunbury’s rich art history and is the perfect exhibition to mark the Gallery’s re-opening, according to BRAG Director Dr Joanne Baitz.
“The City of Bunbury Art Collection is an impressive display of artworks that should be viewed with pride by those visiting the Gallery, especially residents of Bunbury,” Dr Baitz said.
“We are thrilled to be reopening the Gallery’s doors on Monday and cannot wait to again have people visit and be captivated by the amazing exhibitions BRAG is renowned for.”
The collection will be displayed across three of the Gallery’s spaces – the City, Fourth and Chapel galleries.
Also on display at the Gallery will be the Noongar Country 2020 exhibition and Susan Ecker’s Elements Form exhibition.
The Noongar Country 2020 exhibition is an annual highlight of the Gallery’s calendar with impressive artworks celebrating the rich history and diverse culture and achievements of the region’s Indigenous community.
Susan Ecker’s thought-provoking exhibition was cut short due to the pandemic, but will now be on display until July 19.
Bunbury Mayor Gary Brennan said reopening the Gallery marked an important milestone in the City’s recovery plan.
“BRAG is the premier regional art facility of the South West and I will be delighted to see its doors reopen to our community,” Mayor Brennan said.
“As restrictions continue to ease, I encourage both residents and visitors to our wonderful City to support local and get involved in the abundance of cultural activities we have to offer.”
It is hoped an upgraded pathway and automated doors to the Gallery’s foyer will be completed in time for its reopening, however arrangements will be in place if work is not completed.
Bunbury Regional Art Gallery will open at 10am on June 29 and entry is free.
